Katherine

About the Artist

Using polymer clay, a variety of papers and wire, acrylic paints, and a friendly word processor, artist and writer Katherine Dewey creates a world which is at once drawn from myth and anchored in reality. Fired by experience, research, and a relentless imagination, she sculpts and writes about the creatures that occupy a land of indeterminate boundary and time. The results are multidimensional illustrations and tales of a world uniquely her own. Sprites, wights, goblins, and fairies coexist with mice, turtles, lizards, and toads. Myth and substance combine. A magical reality prevails. Her extensive studies and travels are represented in each sculpture she creates. If you ask her where she gets her ideas, she will look you in the eye and say they come from Peoria, the Illinois town where she was born.

Exhibits, Teaching Schedules, and Awards
Katherine discontinued her teaching and will focus now on interaction with fellow sculptors on social media and her own forum. It has been a long rewarding career but one that is coming to a close. Keep pushing the clay!
